Creating a game is like baking a pizza – it’s all about balancing the ingredients and perfecting the process.

What?

Pizza Perfetta is a family-friendly board game that I co-developed. The game revolves around players acting as Pizzaiolos, competing to bake the perfect pizza. Players are tasked with completing three secret orders – one simple, one medium, and one challenging. The game incorporates event cards that add unpredictability, making every game a new experience.

How?

In our Group of 4 we handled all aspects of the project ourselves – from the game mechanics and the rulebook to the packaging design and product photos. We also created all the materials needed for the game, including ingredient chips, order cards, and the packaging design, to create a cohesive experience. Our focus was on creating a fun and strategic gameplay loop that could be enjoyed by a wide range of people, from children to adults.

We also created a explainer-video!

Learnings.

One of the key challenges was the game mechanics. Despite conducting several rounds of playtesting, we discovered that the game mechanics still aren’t fully refined, and more adjustments will be needed to achieve the right balance. However, we are very proud of the design and packaging – they were something we invested a lot of time and effort into and are very satisfied with the outcome.

This project was a real eye-opener for me in terms of understanding how difficult it is to create a solid game mechanic that is both fun and engaging. I learned the importance of continuous testing and iteration to refine the gameplay. Additionally, working on the packaging design taught me valuable lessons about how crucial it is to create a design that is both visually appealing and functional, as it plays a key role in attracting players and setting the right tone for the game.
