Two coffee containers, two perspectives – a short story about consumption, sustainability, and everyday choices.
What?
An audiovisual scrollytelling website that contrasts the life of a reusable coffee cup with that of a disposable to-go cup. Created in the course Experimental Storytelling, the goal was to encourage reflection on daily habits through a humorous, minimalist narrative.
A dual image sequence combined with a character-driven audio dialogue tells the story of their encounter and separation.

How?
We started with sketches, storyboards, and a detailed shot list. The photos were taken with a Sony A7III and edited in Lightroom.
The character dialogue was recorded on a laptop and enhanced with café ambience recorded via smartphone. The design was kept minimal to highlight the story itself, with a mirrored layout to reinforce the contrasting paths of the two protagonists.
Key challenges included scouting the right location, simplifying our ideas, and coordinating the shoot in a real-world setting.
Learnings.
- Simplicity supports clarity – narrowing the focus makes the message stronger
- Sound design adds depth – ambient noise makes scenes feel alive
- Writing on location brings dialogue closer to reality
Unexpected discovery: finding a full trash bag in Zurich when you need one… is surprisingly hard :)
